The next-generation 2015 Ford F-150 is destined to become one of the biggest reveals at the 2014 Detroit Auto Show next month. Why? Ford is set to revolutionalize the full size truck segment with the 2015 F-150, which is going to be significantly lighter than the current truck thanks to the use of an extensive amount of aluminum. The weight savings may also help the next F-150 achieve a fuel economy rating over 30 mpg.

According to several sources, the 2015 Ford F-150 is going to get a body that is mostly made of aluminum, which will provide weight savings up to 750 pounds compared to the current F-150. The weight savings will help the F-150 eventually become the most fuel-efficient full size pickup with a rating in the 30 mpg range. Unfortunately it may take a year or two for the 30 mpg F-150 to be released, since a new ten-speed automatic transmission that Ford is developing will likely have to be part of the mix. It's being reported that Ford is going to preview the new transmission next month, which will also be mated to a new 2.7L turbocharged EcoBoost engine under the hood of the 2015 Ford F-150.

Either way, we can expect the 2015 F-150 to have significant fuel economy and performance gains compared to today's F-150. The 2015 Ford F-150 is expected to go into production in the second half of 2015.
