Tesla Model S VS Corvette Stingray
This 2014 Corvette Stingray is struggling to keep up with an electric car?!

The Tesla S is on fire this week, and no we're not talking about a fifth fire in their previous run of bad luck with their battery pack being damaged by low lying road debris. We're talking about marginally walloping a 2014 Corvette Stingray at its home turf: the drag strip.

In the photo above, you are looking through the back window of a Tesla Model S during a drag race, and yes, that is a Dodge Viper SRT10 a good several feet behind it. The above video (watch Viper VS. Tesla here) created quite a bit of buzz about the true performance potential of the Tesla S, which originally came with a 0-60 sprint in around 4.4-seconds.

The Dodge Viper SRT10 is known to be quite a handful on the strip with its massive V10. The 2014 Corvette Stingrau Z51 package should fare much better, shouldn't it?

Okay, so the term, wallop, may be up for debate with the results of this video. However, who honestly thought an electric car could make a Corvette break a sweat? Of course, the red Tesla Model S isn't just any electric car. The red Tesla is fitted with the 85-kWh performance version, which is considerably quicker than the base model.

And as long as we're being completely honest, it is also true that the competing C7 Corvette Z51 was equipped with an automatic gearbox, which in turn causes us to question the level of skill from the Corvette's driver and owner. Ultimately, rather than make a lot of excuses, no matter how you look at it, the takeaway message is that the Tesla Model S P85 is an impressive machine.

But before we go gushing too much, Motor Authority has already posed another challenge for the Tesla S: A 600 mile road trip (without any recharge breaks).
