We've seen several videos and spy photos of the all-new 2016 Audi R8 over the past few weeks, but now spy photographers have caught a V10-powered R8 testing on the famed Nürburgring wearing a lot less camouflage than before. Even with less camo than before, many of the 2016 R8's design details are still under wraps, but at least this latest video gives you a chance to hear the sounds from that sexy V10 engine.
The 2016 Audi R8 is going to share its platform with the Lamborghini Huracan, which may mean that the next-generation R8 will become a bit larger than the current model. The latest reports claim that the R8 will actually be a bit wider and longer than the Huracan. The new R8 is also going to borrow its 5.2L V10 from the Lamborghini supercar and will also reportedly offer a smaller 4.2L V8 option. Audi also recently reconfirmed plans to produce the electric R8 e-tron, which should have an electric driving range north of 250 miles between charges.
Even though the 2016 R8 is largely covered in the latest spy photos, the photos do confirm that the next R8 will get an evolutionary redesign with many of the same styling cues as the 2016 Audi TT. The head and taillights will now be wider and flatter than before and the R8's grille will be more hexagonal than before.
It's not known when Audi will reveal the 2016 R8, but it could happen as early as the 2014 Paris Motor Show, which would also mark the eighth anniversary of the debut of the original R8.
