It's been previously reported that Mercedes-Benz's BMW X6 rival will be dubbed MLC, but now a new report claims that it will actually be called the "ML Coupe." The 2016 ML Coupe is expected to be unveiled early next year with sales kicking off by the third quarter of 2015.

Based on the ML, the ML Coupe was previewed by the Concept Coupe SUV at this year's Beijing Motor Show. Codenamed C292, the 2016 ML Coupe will remain very close to the concept with a profile that is similar to the BMW X6. It's stance will be more imposing than the ML and from recent spy photos we can see that the ML Coupe's taillights will be similar to the S-Class coupe.

When the 2016 ML Coupe enters production, it will be produced at Mercedes' plant in Tuscaloosa, AL. The ML Coupe will be the fifth model produced at the plant that already builds the ML, GL, C-Class and R-Class. The ML Coupe will face some growing competition with the second-generation BMW X6 slated to arrive later this year and Audi and Porsche also expected to enter the segment soon.
