The 2018 BMW M6, M8, or 6 Series M sports car has been spotted doing some rounds of testing at the Nurburgring Nordschelife. Spy shots were not able to discern what type of engine will power it as it was running with other cars on the track. It is not known whether this is the pre-production version of the new 6 series.

Car Advice reports that the prototype of the 2018 BMW M6, M8, or 6 Series M features a front fascia with larger lower intakes and wears larger alloy wheels. The new prototype is also likely to come with lower suspension and bigger brakes. The back side will use the same exhaust setup of its predecessors.

It has long been rumored that BMW will replace its current 6 series with a new 8 series model. This has been fueled by checks of trademarking by BMW of the 825, 830, 850, 860, M850, and M8 nameplates. It is said that the proposed 2018 BMW M6, M8, or 6 Series M will be marketed as a rival to the Porsche 911.

News Locker reveals that with its dimensions, the new prototype of the 2018 BMW M6, M8, or 6 Series seems to be based on the latest BMW 5 series. The new car is likely to be sold as a sporty luxury grand touring two-door. However, it will not have the typical quad-tip arrangement seen on true M models.

Motor1 reveals that if the 2018 BMW M6, M8, or 6 Series M is indeed released, it would be available with either a 4.0-liter V8 or a more powerful V12 under its hood. It will also be offered in both rear-wheel and all-wheel drive. The two engines could generate as much as 600 horsepower and could charge up to 60 miles per hour in less than 4 seconds. Whether or not this is the replacement to the series 6, we will know in the coming days.
